Holistic Sleep and Wellness: Beyond CPAP
For years, we focused on traditional sleep medicine, but we often felt that we weren’t fully addressing our patients overall health. The common approach of "you have sleep apnea, wear a CPAP" treats only part of the issue. We now understand that true wellness requires a more holistic approach that touches all aspects of life. Achieving optimal health goes beyond managing sleep disorders; it involves maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, and getting the restorative sleep needed to unlock your full potential.
Our program starts by incorporating practices observed in individuals who sleep well. We no longer assume that poor sleep is solely due to conditions like insomnia or sleep apnea. Instead, we recognize the impact of other factors, such as underlying medical issues, emotional health, diet, and medications. Understanding the root cause of sleep problems and their overall effect on your health is essential for effective treatment. Together, we will determine whether poor sleep is the cause or a symptom of your condition, and this insight will help shape a personalized treatment plan.

Can I bring my pet or service animal to The Sleep Lab Hawaii? At The Sleep Lab Hawaii, we understand the importance of your companions. Generally, pets are not allowed within our facility. However, if you have a service animal, you may bring it along, provided you present documentation certifying that it is indeed a service animal. It's crucial to bring a cage for your service animal, as it will not be permitted to sleep in the bed with you. Having your animal in the bed can impact the quality of your sleep study, potentially waking you up or disturbing the setup by pulling on wires. To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of your sleep study, the service animal must be safely contained. Our team will do its best to accommodate your needs while ensuring the integrity of your sleep study, so you can awaken to a better night's sleep.

Can I use my phone or other electronic devices during my sleep study at The Sleep Lab Hawaii? You are welcome to use your phone, iPad, or other electronic devices while waiting for your technician and during the setup at The Sleep Lab Hawaii. However, once you are in bed, all electronic devices must be turned off. Devices kept near the sleep monitoring equipment can impair signal quality and negatively affect the accuracy of your sleep study. Therefore, it is essential that all electronic devices be powered off and removed from the area once your study begins. Additionally, no music can be played during the sleep study to ensure a controlled environment for assessing your sleep patterns effectively.

Can I have someone stay with me during my sleep study at The Sleep Lab Hawaii? At The Sleep Lab Hawaii, generally, patients are not allowed to have someone sleep with them in bed during their sleep study. However, we understand that certain circumstances might require the presence of a companion. If the patient has difficulty getting out of bed independently or if the patient is a minor, it is necessary for them to bring someone to assist. In such cases, we will provide a cot for the accompanying person to sleep on. Please note that the companion cannot sleep in the same bed unless they are a child under the age of 10. Our aim is to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for all our patients while fulfilling our mission of helping you awaken to a better night's sleep. If you have specific concerns or need further clarification, please contact our office directly.
